Before rewiring any ceiling fan. Turn off the electrical current at the source by turning off circuit breakers. 2. Take photos or write down the wire color of the existing fan switch and the connected terminal number. (1, 2, 3, L). 3. Remove wires from the existing fan switch.(can using a paper clip, pull out the electric wire) 4. Insert wires into the new switch as in the previous switch.(wires should be inserted into the slots on side of the switch) 5. Secure connection between the wires using wire connectors by twisting them clockwise. Please refer to the following fan color code: Harbor Breeze ceiling fan: L=Black, 3=Purple, 2=Brown, 1=Grey Hampton Bay ceiling fan: L=Black, 3=Grey 2=Brown, 1= Purple Hampton Bay ceiling fan —Alternate colors: L=Black, 3=Yellow, 2=Purple, 1=Red Hunter ceiling fan: L=Black, 3=Green, 2=Brown, 1=Grey Basket fans: L=Black (power), 3=Black (not power), 2=Blue, 1= Red Exhaust fans: L=Black (power), 3=White, 2=Brown, 1=Red Attention: ●Before rewiring any ceiling fan,turn off electrical current at source by switching off circuit breakers. Note: ●Make sure to write down the position of all wires that you disconnect in the process of removing the switch. Do not cut wires from old switch, but remove by inserting blade of very small screwdriver next to wire and pulling out. Then insert the tinned wires in the same order as removed into the new switch." (If you cut the wire you will lose the stiff tinned end and make it difficult to insert into the new switch unless you strip and re-tin it again with a soldering iron).
