Fire Alarm Engineer

Syracuse Time & Alarm is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Fire Alarm Engineer to design, install, maintain, and support fire alarm systems across commercial and residential environments. This critical role involves ensuring all systems are fully compliant with NFPA and local fire codes while operating reliably to protect lives and property. The Fire Alarm Engineer will collaborate with internal teams, provide client support, and contribute to enhancing system reliability and service delivery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Design & Implementation:

  • Design and implement fire alarm systems according to NFPA standards, building codes, and safety regulations.

  • Collaborate with the sales team to provide technical input and recommendations on system configurations.

  • Work on Bi-Directional Amplifiers (BDAs) to enhance emergency communication systems in complex environments.

Installation & Maintenance:

  • Install, test, and inspect fire alarm panels and devices to ensure full operational readiness.

  • Conduct regular maintenance and troubleshooting of systems to identify issues and ensure functionality.

  • Provide timely and effective resolution of system errors and failures.

Compliance & Documentation:

  • Ensure all work complies with national and local fire codes and company standards.

  • Maintain comprehensive records of installations, inspections, service calls, and maintenance activities.

Client Communication & Support:

  • Communicate effectively with clients to explain system functionality, resolve issues, and recommend upgrades.

  • Deliver technical support and basic training to clients and internal team members.

Team Collaboration:

  • Partner with technicians, project managers, and contractors to complete installations and service projects efficiently.

  • Offer input and feedback on process improvements and new technologies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred.

  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in fire alarm system design, installation, and service.

  • NICET Level III or IV Certification (Fire Alarm Systems) required.

  • Strong familiarity with NFPA standards (particularly NFPA 72), fire codes, and regulations.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Expertise in fire alarm systems and electrical schematics.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.

  • Proficiency in interpreting blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • Physically able to lift 50+ lbs and perform duties on ladders or elevated platforms.

SCHEDULE

  • Full-time position, Monday–Friday business hours.

  • Occasional weekend or after-hours work based on project needs.

WORK LOCATION

  • In-person role based in Syracuse, NY.

  • Local travel required. Candidates must be willing to relocate if not currently local.
