Syracuse Time & Alarm is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Security & Access Control IT/AV/Pro Sound Technician to lead the installation, integration, and maintenance of advanced security, access control, IT, audio/video, and professional sound systems across commercial and residential environments. This role combines deep technical expertise, project leadership, and a client-focused mindset to deliver innovative solutions that ensure safety, seamless connectivity, and high-quality performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Installation & Integration:

• Install, program, and configure advanced security systems including Genetec, Galaxy, card readers, keypads, intercoms, and CCTV.

• Implement structured cabling, low-voltage wiring, and AV system infrastructure.

• Install and integrate video conferencing, lighting control (e.g., Lutron), motorized shades, and automation systems (e.g., Crestron, Savant, Control4).

• Configure HD video distribution, DVR/NVRs, and analog/digital surveillance cameras.

• Set up telephony systems, soundproofing, acoustic treatments, and sound masking solutions.

Operations & Supervision:

• Manage field teams to ensure timely and high-quality installations.

• Collaborate with project managers to align project goals, resolve challenges, and exceed client expectations.

• Mentor and support junior technicians, promoting a culture of teamwork and ongoing development.

Technical Expertise:

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across integrated technologies.

• Work with Apple and Windows systems as well as specialized AV and office software.

• Interpret blueprints, technical schematics, and architectural documentation.

• Utilize meters, testing devices, and hand/power tools while adhering to safety protocols.

Client Engagement & Support:

• Deliver clear, professional communication regarding system operation and care.

• Tailor solutions to client-specific requirements and offer upgrade recommendations.

Compliance & Documentation:

• Ensure all installations meet applicable codes, industry standards, and company policies.

• Maintain accurate and organized records of service calls, installations, and maintenance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in security, access control, IT, AV, and pro sound integration.

• Hands-on expertise with Genetec, Galaxy, Honeywell, Lenel, Crestron, Extron, and similar systems.

• Industry certifications (CEDIA, InfoComm, NICET, ESA, or BICSI) preferred.

• Security/alarm license preferred.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Excellent troubleshooting and technical problem-solving skills.

• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

• Skilled in interpreting blueprints and schematics.

• Comfortable using testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools.

• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

• Physically able to climb ladders, lift 50+ lbs, and work at elevated heights.

SCHEDULE

• Full-time position, Monday to Friday.

• Occasional weekend or after-hours work may be required depending on project needs.

WORK LOCATION

• In person at Syracuse Time & Alarm, based in Syracuse, NY.

• Local travel is required. Candidates must be willing to relocate if not local.
